Lil Wayne made MTV Video Music Awards history last night when he digitally released his new album just after the awards show. Tha Carter IV was available on iTunes and Amazon.com for several hours before the physical album hit the shelves today.
“I am extremely excited to be the first artist to utilize such an amazing idea. I hope that I can open the door for others,” said Weezy, who is the first artist in the shows history to use the ceremony as free publicity for an album that debuts the same day.
Tha Carter IV, Weezy’s ninth studio album, features collaborations from Busta Rhymes, Cory Gunz, Drake and Rick Ross. A total of four singles hit the airwaves before the album dropped: “6 Foot 7 Foot,” “John,” “How to Love” and “She Will.”

After eight months in prison, everyone’s favorite incarcerated rapper has finally been released.
Lil Wayne, who was put away back in March, was just released from Riker’s Island jail complex on Nov. 4. From there, he was expected to attend a welcome home party hosted by his managers at his home in Miami.
During his time behind bars, Lil Wayne set up a website called Weezythanxyou.com, which gave his fans a chance to see what his time in prison was like. On the site, he posted that he “was never scared, worried nor bothered by [his] situation.”

Today an Arizona judge sentenced Lil Wayne to 36 months of probation, stemming from a January 2008 incident where drugs, drug paraphernalia and a firearm were discovered by authorities on Lil Wayne’s tour bus.
The 27-year-old rapper and father of four originally pled not guilty to the charges, but pled guilty of one count of possession of a dangerous drug via a jail cell video on June 18.
“If [the police] would have stopped [the bus] that night, and I had everything under control, it wouldn’t have been nothing,” Lil Wayne told mtv.com back in February 2008. “I was irresponsible at that time. F— up on my part. No ifs, ands, buts about it. I don’t blame nobody but myself. I can’t blame nobody for not taking my charge. … This is my bus.”

One month into Lil Wayne’s year long prison sentence, he reaches out to his fans to thank them for all their support. The new website, weezythanxyou.com, provides Lil Wayne with an avenue to carry his spirit and love beyond the prison walls.
The first message was posted on Friday April 2nd. Lil Wayne assured fans that he is in good spirits and is looking forward to what the future will bring. Fans are encouraged to write and Lil Wayne promises weekly responses to as many letters and questions as he can.
Lil Wayne’s short time behind bars seems to have humbled his spirit. He is grateful for the opportunities that have been generated from his Grammy winning music career and that without his fans, it wouldn’t exist.

After having his sentencing twice postponed—once for dental work and another time because of a courthouse basement fire—Lil Wayne is finally behind bars.
Lil Wayne, whose real name is Dwayne Michael Carter Jr., began serving a one-year sentence on a weapons charge at Rikers Island in New York City earlier this month. With good behavior, Lil Wayne’s ticket to the streets could come in as little as eight months.
Though he’s in jail, Lil Wayne’s legal problems just won’t go away, according to TMZ.com, which reported that Wayne was issued a bench warrant in Arizona for missing a scheduled court date on Monday.

Lil Wayne’s “Best I Ever Had” apparently wasn’t good enough for a Grammy Award against the stiff competition from “Day ‘N’ Nite,” “Dead And Gone,” “D.O.A. (Death Of Auto-Tune),” and the ultimate winner “Run This Town.”
Though Lil Wayne, dubbed “Dwayne Carter” on the official Grammy Web site, was nominated for Best Rap Song, that award went to Jay-Z, Rihanna & Kanye West for “Run This Town.”
Aubrey Drake Graham & Matthew Samuels were also included in the “Best I Ever Had” Grammy Award nomination.
The 52nd Annual Grammy Awards were held on Jan. 31 in Los Angeles, CA.

Okay, Lil Wayne has a lot going on. First, he’s wrapping up his tour in three days and he’ll be playing each night until then in Louisiana, Arkansas and Mississippi, respectively.
Also, he was just named in the Top 100 Songs of the Decade and Top 100 Albums of the Decade by Rolling Stone magazine. His album “Tha Carter III” (2008) was named No. 32 on the albums list, and his song “A Milli” was named No. 63 on the songs list.
Finally, his album “Rebirth,” which has been scheduled for about six different release dates starting on April 7, 2009, finally came out…illegally that is. It turns out that about 500 copies of the album were sent to Amazon customers who preordered the album and it was leaked on the internet.
What seemed like a great advertising ploy (by holding the proverbial carrot in front of the horse) apparently backfired on Lil Wayne who retorted (via Twitter): “Leaked 09 Rebirth isn’t going to be 2010 Rebirth.” Now, the “2010 Rebirth” is going to be available on Feb. 2, which is just a week before Lil Wayne is sentenced for possession of a weapon in New York.
So, what do you think? Did Lil Wayne deserve to have his album leaked because he repeatedly gave his fans false hope about when the album would come out? Will he really have time to come up with a new “Rebirth” album in the next month?

Madonna is set to release “Celebration,” her greatest hits album on Sept. 28, 2009, which will fulfill her commitment to Warner Bros. records.
The album will come out as both a double-disc offering and as a single CD, with the first disc including 18 classic tracks like “Music,” “Like a Virgin,” “Vogue,” “Express Yourself,” “Like a Prayer” and “Holiday.” The disc concludes with “Revolver,” Madonna’s collaboration with Lil’ Wayne.
“Celebration” will also be available as a DVD, which includes some of Madonna’s more recent video releases.

Lil Wayne has added ten more stops to his “America’s Most Wanted” festival, featuring Young Jeezy, Soulja Boy, Tell‘Em, Pleasure P, Jeremih and the Young Money Crew.
The additional dates begin in Kansas City, MO, on August 24th and include stops through the Midwest and the South through September 6th.
A sad spot for the tour is the recent injury of Wayne’s protégé, Drake. The rapper, who is responsible for the summer anthem “Best I Ever Had,” reinjured his leg in Philadelphia last week after trying to continue with the tour on a bum knee. As a result, Drake has missed some shows and at others is a special guest for Wayne’s set.
